Step 1
Determine the reason or source of why you are feeling lonely. Write down your feelings and thoughts in a journal. Take time to acknowledge the feeling and ask yourself if you've always been feeling lonely or did you recently become lonely due to a certain situation.
Step 2
There are internal and external reasons for feeling lonely. External reasons are based on an actual physical situation in which you may not have access to people to communicate with, such as being alone in a jail cell. Internal reasons are based on your inner emotions in which you simply feel lonely but are not actually alone. Determine if your loneliness is internal or external.
